Why This App?

We wanted to solve a problem, one that is close to us here at the University of Michigan - Flint. Through extensive research we were able to come up to a solution to a problem many residents struggle with (if only once a month); paying their water bill.

Phase 1
Phase 1 involved the formation of the group. Then we proposed ideas that formed the basis of the course project. We gave a brief 5-minute presentation as an opportunity to receive feedback from our peers. We were prompted to choose a topic in which our focus was to improve or create a specific tool, application, or service. Once we had our focus we compiled the information into a project proposal. The proposal included the problem description, related work and background of the problem as research, our methodology for collecting data on the problem. Finally we outlined a new or improved system. Click the link below to read our Phase 1 submission in PDF format.

Phase 2
Phase 2 outcome on task-centered system design was a design portfolio which contained;
  • A list describing expected users of the system and their activity contexts
  • A list of representative tasks that people are expected to do
  • A prioritized list of system requirements
  • Early sketches of your design alternatives
  • Low fidelity prototypes
  • Task-centered walk-through of the prototypes
  • An informal evaluation with a small number of users

Phase 3
Phase 3 including building a hi-fi prototype. We did this by incorporating the results from the previous low-fi prototyping/testing data with our lo-fi prototype. Once we designed and created a hi-fi prototype we were able to conduct usability evaluations. Finally we put everything together in a final report.
